Bryans Road isn't an incorporated town, so Charles County sets the rules. The county's Department of Planning & Growth Management publishes a list of work that doesn't need a residential permit, and floor laying and refinishing, carpet installation, and linoleum and tile work are all on it. So is interior decoration like painting and trim. For most flooring jobs, you can skip the permit office entirely.
Things change if the floor comes up and the structure underneath needs repair. Alterations are on the county's permit-required list, and inspections on county permits are done by Planchek, Inc.
If your home is on a well or septic system, there's one more step. The Charles County Health Department has its own pre-approval for building permits on those properties, including interior remodeling, and its form says the review takes two weeks. A plain floor replacement doesn't get near this. A structural repair that needs a building permit can. If that happens, we tell you right away, file the paperwork, and build the review into the schedule.
We install Shaw Floors, Mohawk, Daltile, and Cali Bamboo, and source other materials through Build.com.
