Calvert County says properties served by a well or septic system require an Environmental Health Department review for a finished basement. Depending on the scope of work, a site evaluation — percolation testing — and a sanitary construction permit may be required. The Calvert County Health Department also notes that when living space or bedrooms are added, the septic system sometimes has to be upgraded or replaced.
