When the Town of Indian Head permit applies
Indian Head has its own Planning and Zoning Administrator and its own building permit. The town code is specific about what that permit covers: exterior construction, demolition, or alterations. Permits are issued by the Town Clerk after the Town Manager approves the application.
For a kitchen, that line between inside and outside is the whole question:
Interior-only work — cabinets, counters, flooring, a wall between the kitchen and dining room — falls outside the town's exterior-work permit. Any county permit for plumbing, electrical, or structural work still applies.
Anything that changes the outside — a new or bigger window over the sink, a range hood vented through the wall, a new door to the yard — needs a Town of Indian Head permit before the work starts.
We look at your plan with that line in mind and tell you exactly which approvals your kitchen needs.
