A bathroom is what turns a basement from extra space into a real living area. The first question is how the waste gets out. If your basement has a plumbing rough-in, most of that question is already answered. If it doesn't, the fixtures may sit below the sewer or septic line, and we'll evaluate options including an ejector pump system that lifts waste up to where it can drain.
Plumbing work goes through the county. St. Mary's County's residential permit application asks whether the project includes plumbing and asks for the plumber's license number, and the Department of Land Use & Growth Management is the county's plumbing office. We have the plumbing done by a licensed plumber and file it with the rest of the permit.
